Research Assistant II

PHI is seeking a full time Research Assistant II for the Global Health Fellows Program for 3 months. This position is located in Washington, DC.

The Research Assistant II will be assigned to the Health Team in the Office of Technical Support (TS) of the Bureaus for Asia and the Middle East (A/ME). The A/ME Health Team manages a diverse and challenging regional health portfolio and provides strategic guidance and technical assistance to USAID missions on health systems strengthening, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, family planning/reproductive health, maternal and child health, avian influenza, and other health issues such as youth, gender, stability and security. The team supports USAID’s strategic objective of Investing in People.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the regional bureau lead health team backstop for several Asia and Middle East countries
    • Gain in-depth current knowledge of countries, USG policies and programs
    • Provide feedback to regional team operations
    • Participate in and contribute to the Global Health Bureau’s country teams
    • Contribute to development and review of strategies, reports, guidance, briefs and tasks
  • Support a variety of health technical areas with focus on HIV, family planning and maternal child health
  • Support A/ME regional HIV activities in the MENA region
  • Coordinate with USAID and State department counterparts on technical topics, including the Middle East Partnership Initiative, Global Health Initiative and Global Engagement Initiative
  • Coordinate with other major players in health
    • Participate in Global Health Bureau and A/ME Bureau meetings
    • Interact with other donors, NGOs/think tanks
  • Respond to requests for information and to other tasks as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in public health or related field is required. A Masters degree highly preferred
  • 2 years of research related experience
  • At least 6 months of experience in research and analysis
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Ability to work with database applications and spreadsheets
  • Ability to perform basic statistical analysis and interpret output
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A current secret security clearance is required

Compensation:

This is a non-exempt position and the hourly wage is commensurate with experience.
