Statement

“Stand against intolerance and strengthen the bonds of solidarity.”: PHI Statement

"Last week was a terrible week for our nation. The anti-Semitic mass murder of worshipers in a Pittsburgh synagogue, the race-motivated killings of two African-Americans in Kentucky, and the series of bombs mailed to prominent political figures were not isolated. They were connected by hate and fomented by an intolerance of difference and an increasingly deadly tolerance of nationalist and racist ideology."

STATEMENT FROM MARY A. PITTMAN, CEO AND PRESIDENT, PUBLIC HEALTH INSTITUTE

“Last week was a terrible week for our nation. The anti-Semitic mass murder of worshipers in a Pittsburgh synagogue, the race-motivated killings of two African-Americans in Kentucky, and the series of bombs mailed to prominent political figures were not isolated. They were connected by hate and fomented by an intolerance of difference and an increasingly deadly tolerance of nationalist and racist ideology.

“PHI expresses sorrow and condolences to the communities directly impacted, and recognizes that these acts create terror and fear that ripples out into communities connected by faith, culture and race.

“Though we grow weary of the frequency with which we must speak out, none of us can become complacent, silent or immune to the devastation caused by such terrible acts. We must all use our voices to stand against intolerance and to strengthen the bonds of solidarity.”
