May 16, 2013
The UCLA Fielding School of Public Health's Alumni Association has given the 2013 Ruth Roemer Social Justice Leader Award to PHI's Francine Coeytaux, MPH.
Coeytaux is internationally known for her promotion of comprehensive reproductive health and safe abortion services, and the development of new reproductive technologies. In her 33-year career she has worked to empower women, particularly in managing their reproductive health and rights, and has pioneered the use of acceptability research to give voice to women in the shaping of public health agendas.
The Ruth Roemer Social Justice Leader Award recognizes an outstanding individual who has demonstrated commitment to social justice issues through service and support of vulnerable populations. The award is named in honor of Ruth Roemer, JD, a noted and renowned professor at UCLA’s Fielding School of Public Health and former APHA president, who for over five decades exhibited outstanding teaching and leadership skills in the field of social justice.
The award will be presented at the 4th Annual Ruth Roemer Symposium to be held on Thursday, May 23, 2013, at the California Endowment in Los Angeles. For more information contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
