Spring 2008

“Managing Performance in a Time of Transition.” In this issue, the Public Health Institute's new president and CEO Mary A. Pittman shares her approach to PHI's leadership transition and Tom Greenfield, who directs the Alcohol Research Group at PHI, discusses leading a research organization through transitions. This edition also features two different research projects led by HIV/AIDS researcher Tooru Nemoto and tobacco policy expert Teh-wei Hu.

Fall 2007

“Innovation & Leadership: A Healthy Combination.” In this issue, we feature two PHI leaders who have made significant contributions to the field of public health: Joseph Hafey, who has led the Public Health Institute and its predecessor organizations for more than 30 years, and Robert Minnis, who retired from his post as program director of the International Health Programs (IHP) at PHI after 35 years of service to IHP.

Spring 2007

“Developing a Workforce for the Future of Public Health.” In this issue, we feature the Center for Health Leadership and Practice as well as California's Healthcare Workforce Diversity Initiative. These PHI programs focus on developing a robust "leadership bench" and increasing diversity in the health care workforce. Also featured are the Ditching Dirty Diesel Collaborative and Company-Community Partnerships for Women's Health.

Fall 2006

“Improving Health: Tools and Training.” In this issue, we feature the new Global Health Fellows Program and how it brings health expertise to people in need. Also featured is the Berkeley Media Studies Group and ways to build “bench strength” for public health advocacys.

Spring 2006

“Improving Health Around the Globe.” This issue features PHI’s Mexico Initiative, a new teen pregnancy prevention partnership with IMIFAP (Instituto Mexicano de Investigación de Familia y Población), and the International Health Program’s Emergency Contraception Leadership Initiative in Mexico and Central America.

Fall 2005

“Engaging Youth in Health.” This issue highlights the work of the California Adolescent Health Collaborative, the Partnership for the Public’s Health’s Healthy Eating, Active Communities program office, and the International Health Program’s Youth Leadership in Sexual and Reproductive Health Program (GOJoven).

Spring 2005

“Planning for Healthy Environments.” This issue features the work of California Healthy Cities and Communities, the Land Use and Food Stamp Nutrition Education project, and the Berkeley Media Studies Group.

“Chronic Disease: Costly yet often Preventable.” This issue highlights the work of the California School Health Centers Association and the Regional Asthma Management and Prevention Initiative.

“The Value of Data in Establishing Public Health Policies.” This issue features the California Cancer Registry and the California 5 a Day Worksite Program. We also honor seven remarkable women who have made major contributions to the filed of healthy eating and active living.

“Reprioritizing Prevention.” This issue features the Youth Empowerment (YES!) project, California Project LEAN and California Nutrition Network for Healthy Active Families' Latino 5 a Day Campaign.
