Public Health Institute honored as one of 50 best nonprofit workplaces in nation.
OAKLAND, CA -- The Public Health Institute was named one of the top "50 Best NonProfits To Work For In 2010" today by The NonProfit Times, a nonprofit business management publication.
The Best Companies Group in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, conducted the search for the outstanding nonprofit workplaces, ranking the Public Health Institute (PHI) sixth among large nonprofit employers with 250 or more employees and 27th out of 50 organizations.
"We are thrilled to be recognized as one of the best nonprofit places to work in the country," said Mary A Pittman, DrPH, president and chief executive officer of PHI. "Our employees are the driving force behind what we do, and we are committed to providing a workplace that supports employee development, provides optimal benefits and promotes work-life balance. This honor confirms that we are on the right track."
Best Companies Group, partnering with The NonProfit Times, chose the honorees in its first annual rankings through a process that began with nominations from thousands of employees across the nation. Best Companies then invited nonprofit organizations to participate, and screened them through an employer questionnaire and a comprehensive employee engagement and satisfaction survey. A randomly selected group of 350 of PHI’s 591 employees was surveyed. The questions were categorized into eight core focus areas: the organization’s leadership and planning, corporate culture and communication, role satisfaction, work environment, relationship with supervisor, training and development, pay and benefits and overall employee engagement.
PHI, an independent nonprofit organization based in Oakland, is dedicated to promoting health, well being and quality of life for people throughout California, the nation and around the world through research and evaluation, training and technical assistance, and by building community partnerships.
