Public Health Law & Policy Launches As Independent Nonprofit
OAKLAND, CA -- The Public Health Institute (PHI) and Public Health Law & Policy (PHLP) announce today that PHLP has officially launched as an independent not-for-profit organization.
"From its inception at PHI, PHLP has been on the cutting edge of public health by providing high-quality technical legal assistance and policy analysis to public health advocates, public health professionals, and governmental entities," according to PHI President & CEO Mary A. Pittman, DrPH.
PHLP has been part of PHI for 15 years. During that time, the organization has grown from a small staff focusing on tobacco control to a multi-disciplinary operation that not only works within the tobacco control arena, but also addresses healthy community planning, childhood obesity prevention and climate change.
"We have achieved so much as part of PHI's supportive environment," said Marice Ashe, JD, MPH, executive director of PHLP. "We anticipate positive collaborations between the two organizations going forward—our missions are well-aligned, and there will be many opportunities for meaningful, positive partnerships."
