Launching Belize’s Next Generation of Sexual and Reproductive Health Leaders
GOBelize promotes positive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) knowledge and behavior, leadership, and environmental consciousness among young people, in an atmosphere of fellowship.
From 2004 to 2015, the GOJoven Youth Leadership in Sexual and Reproductive Health Program trained eleven cohorts in Belize, totaling 82 young people. Initially run by the Public Health Institute (USA), GOJoven trainings and programming in Belize have been run by the NGO GOJoven Belize Alumni Association (GOBelize) since 2011.
What are the long-term impacts of participating in the GOJoven Belize program, and how are the program’s alumni still engaging in advocacy efforts to advance sexual and reproductive health?
In 2017, GOJoven conducted an alumni survey to learn more about the program’s impact on participants throughout their professional careers. They found that 83% of GOJoven Belize alumni are currently working to address adolescent sexual and reproductive health or rights as either volunteers or in paid positions. And, 80% of GOJoven Belize alumni in leadership positions.
