Statement on Proposed Elimination of SNAP-Ed in the House Committee on Agriculture Budget Reconciliation

Statement from the Public Health Institute, Center for Wellness and Nutrition & Roots of Change

“On May 13, 2025, the House Committee on Agriculture released proposed budget reconciliation language that includes the complete elimination of the SNAP Nutrition Education (SNAP-Ed) program.

“This proposal threatens to dismantle a vital resource that works each and every day to make America healthy, supporting healthy eating habits and long-term well-being for millions of Americans. The elimination of SNAP-Ed would have a devastating and disproportionate impact on thousands of communities and millions of Americans who look to these resources to keep them healthy at home, in the workplace and in schools. This includes low wage working families, children, older adults, and people with disabilities. Organizations and groups such as food banks, farmer’s markets and local farmers also count on SNAP-Ed resources to help support and promote their resources and services throughout the country.

“The Center for Wellness and Nutrition, Roots of Change and the Public Health Institute strongly oppose the proposed elimination of SNAP-Ed in the House Committee on Agriculture Budget Reconciliation.”
