THRIVE Study: PHI’s Cancer Registry of Greater California Seeking Individuals Recently Diagnosed with Metastatic Colorectal Cancer

The research team at PHI’s Cancer Registry of Greater California (CRGC) is currently enrolling eligible individuals recently diagnosed with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) to participate in the “Tracking Health and Responses to Living with Cancer” (THRIVE) Study. The THRIVE study aims to address current gaps in knowledge by learning about individuals’ experiences living with advanced colorectal cancer and various aspects of their lives, survivorship care needs, and healthcare that may affect their symptoms, side effects and quality of life. Knowledge from the THRIVE study will help inform multi-level interventions specifically designed for persons living with mCRC.

The THRIVE study is a collaboration with researchers from Georgetown University and other institutions, with CRGC and the New Jersey State Cancer Registry teams involved in enrolling and surveying up to 1600 adults living with metastatic colorectal cancer over a one-year period in parts of California and New Jersey.

Eligibility

Individuals eligible to enroll in the THRIVE study include those who are:

  • adults 18 years of age and older;
  • residing in any California county except Los Angeles and Greater Bay area counties during your diagnosis; and
  • diagnosed with metastatic (stage IV) colorectal cancer (CRC) within the last 2-13 months (i.e., diagnosis years: 2024-2025).

Participating in the THRIVE Study

The THRIVE study is the first of its kind, designed to capture the diverse experiences of people living with cancer to unlock insights and identify services that can improve quality of life throughout the cancer care journey. Participation involves completing an initial survey (~30 minutes), as well as three shorter follow-up surveys at four, eight and 12 months after initial participation. The surveys can be completed either online or on paper. In appreciation of their time and effort, participants will receive a gift card after completing each survey.
