Perceptions, barriers, and opportunities among school board members, state school boards associations, school wellness advocates, state public health nutrition directors, and superintendents
In 2006, the California School Boards Association and PHI's California Project LEAN (Leaders Encouraging Activity and Nutrition) commissioned a national research project on School Wellness Policy development, implementation and evaluation. Through their multi-year partnership, CSBA and CPL have worked together to increase the adoption of healthy school nutrition and physical activity policies. They employed an intervention strategy that included policy tools, community mobilization, advertisements and trainings.
This research project provides lessons learned about the views of school board members, state school boards association leaders, school wellness advocates and state public health nutrition directors about school wellness environments across the country, and what districts need to do to effectively implement, monitor, and evaluate their local wellness policies.
