Toward New Relational Infrastructure in Public Health: Shifting from Vertical to Horizontal
The erosion of trust makes the work of public health harder and, most importantly, it has real consequences for the public’s health. But we know trust is forged through relationships that are nurtured and sustained over time. This post explores the importance of relational infrastructure for renewing trust in public health, moving from a vertical, top-down model to horizontal, in partnership with communities. “Building relational infrastructure in public health takes intention and humility. Sustaining it requires commitment over time, grounded in respect for the wisdom, expertise, lived experiences, and current local realities of community members.”

Trust in public health is foundational to the work, but the challenge in front of us today is making public health more trustworthy to diverse communities across the United States. This inaugural blog post digs into trust in the public health space, and how acknowledging competing perspectives is essential to rebuilding the path forward.
